Third-Person Bio
Leslie Deems is the founder of Awaken Balance. She is an Acupuncturist, Chinese Herbalist, NAET specialist, and Body Talk Practitioner. She holds a Doctorate in Traditional Chinese medicine and is licensed by the state of California. She has been practicing within the healing arts for 28 years.
Leslie was drawn to the art of Chinese Medicine when facing her own healing crisis in 1995. After countless doctor visits, Leslie became disillusioned with the results of traditional western medicine and decided to seek “outside the box.” Her personal journey with the efficacy of acupuncture is what drew her to apprentice with the world-famous Dr. Richard Tan in San Diego.
Leslie treats a variety of illnesses and diseases, but she has a passion for helping people who have fallen through the cracks within our present healthcare model. She is skilled at finding the missing pieces to patients’ puzzles. She makes a point of staying educated on the most recent and relevant health discoveries. This better ensures that her patients benefit from the most effective and rapid resolution of their issues.
Leslie has lectured at California State University, San Marcos, on alternative health care and facial diagnosis. Her manuscript on Face Reading is presently in the works. Currently, she is a volunteer for the Buddhist Tzu Chi medical foundation, providing free medical care for underserved individuals. Leslie is dedicated to providing quality care in a caring and compassionate way. In the pursuit of wellness, she believes it is best to use an integrative approach, considering all options, while treating the whole person.

Hi! I'm the Real Leslie.
It’s odd to talk about myself in the third person.
Even though I put on a very professional face at work, I am someone who likes to not take myself too seriously and have fun.
I am passionate about providing non-invasive tools that work and teaching people how to lead balanced lives! One of the ways that I do this is to encourage patients to rely on their own knowledge, sense, and intuition when it comes to their bodies, instead of giving their power away to the “white coat.” You know that gnawing feeling you get when you aren’t listening to yourself and instead following someone else’s direction…and then paying for it!
Think of me as a friend in the dark, guiding you back to your own inner knowing about what your body needs for total wellness. (I had to find my way back too!)
I must mention my dog Eva, here, the love of my life. I enjoy doting on her every day. Watching her bring joy to patients who are struggling has become an integral part of my practice. Together, we enjoy hikes, gardening, snuggles, eating yummy home cooked food, and yoga. (Yes, I cook for my dog!)
My Approach
My approach focuses on true total body health; mental, emotional, and spiritual levels of healing. I use various methods to integrate the brain and body so that lasting shifts can occur at the deepest of levels. Techniques used to do this are Acupuncture, Body Talk of BodyTalk Systems, Emotional Conflict and Laterality Theory, NAET, Applied Kinesiology, Breathing techniques from the ancient arts of Yoga and Qi Gong, and other tools that I have at my disposal after over 25 years of practice and experience.
Remedies, like that of herbs, nutraceuticals, and medications have their place in supporting the physical body if used in moderation. Less is more! I use them in my own practice to support the body while it’s doing deeper work that is necessary for recovery. All nutraceuticals and herbs are prescribed on an individualized basis to avoid harming patients further.
